Memoirs by some of Portland's Burn Survivors

Facing the Truth by Bethany Storro

On August 30, 2010 Bethany Storro did the unthinkable: dousing her own face with acid in a suicide attempt that failed. Trying to hide from the truth, the lies she told became national news.

Her journey, penned in these pages, will take the reader through a maze of mental illness to uncover the history leading up to the tragedy. Bethany’s desire is that others facing similar paths will find help and hope before dire consequences ensue. A compelling look at the underpinnings of the rare Body Dysmorphic Disorder and their long-term effects, Facing The Truth will reveal, educate and inspire.

Sage Was The Perfect Shadow; A Survivor's Story by Mona Krueger

"A few moments on an icy bridge changed everything: the skid, the sliding, the impact, the gas pouring out on me. It is easy to toss out words like shattered and tragic, tougher to take them in and swallow them."

Thus begins a three-decade tale of recovery and identity reconstruction...

gimp, surviving your survival by alisa christensen

Alisa Christensen was a stunt performer and actor in Los Angeles where she enjoyed a long, crazee love-hate relationship with the entertainment industry. Ironically she wasn’t injured at work but in a camping accident. She was taken to USC where she received a cerebral vascular accident (commonly called a stroke) while under anesthesia. Brain damage was much trickier to navigate than burn damage (and burn damage is hard 2 take.) Five years and twenty operations later she left her hideaway in Venice Beach heading north.
She currently lives in Portland O with Foxy the Little Dog.
